Hiatus and Interium Events

Tuesday, July 1st, 2003

Been away for a while here. My drive to write comes and goes. This was one of those times. Here is a brief review of what has happened since my last post.

In my absence there has been a renewal of the mini icons article I did over on Brainstorms and Raves.

I discovered that Winamp3 is essentially at a stop in its development. Nullsoft is now focusing on Winamp2 and a combination of the two to become a Winamp5 (2 + 3 = 5) of sorts, taking the best of both and putting them together. In reaction to this I stopped using Winamp3 and rolled back to Winamp2. I forgot how much better 2 is than 3. Not to mention there is just more out there for 2 then there is for 3.

Got my copy of Designing With Web Standards. This book is fantastic. I’ll do a full write up shortly. Go visit the mini-site (see the DWWS button).

I’ve started moderating on a new web development forum, Advanced Web Aid. They are very young and looking for members. I know one of the head admins, some really great people over there. Go check them out. Join even!

And perhaps the best news of all, a new job fell in my lap. Seriously. No resume (yet, at least), no searching (they searched me out) and best of all, all the employees are my friends. Unfortunately I must keep the details down for a while to protect the new company but as soon as I can, I promise I will fill in some details.

I believe that’s it. I’ll post as things come to mind.

Oh, I turn 21 in 16 days. Yeah for me!

What Kind of Nerd Are You?

Thursday, May 22nd, 2003

I are the Puter Nerd

Via Zuly’s Zu, took an online nerd test with the results prominently displayed above.

Disclaimer: I don’t know every computer language (including Java), but I’m getting close.

Wireless Goodness

Saturday, May 17th, 2003

Got a wireless CompactFlash network card for my Dell PDA today. Now I am no longer bound to my desktop for all my tasks. I am even writing this entry from my PDA (cumbersome as it is). Now I just need to find other locations that offer free wireless internet access in the Lowell/Boston area. Anyone know of any?

Back Home, New Design

Sunday, April 27th, 2003

I have returned from Florida, pulled in at 12:30a this morning. Its’ good to be home.

As you can see, I have redesigned my site. It was largely done in CSS with a few minor changes to the markup but they were only so I could select things a little better. For those running Mozilla (and its derivitives), Opera and other browsers with native style sheet selection, the old design is still available (dosen’t stick though). I plan to write some JavaScript to expand this functionality to other browsers, but that will have to wait.

Please let me know what you think and definitely alert me to any bugs in the design.

Checking In From Florida

Thursday, April 24th, 2003

I’ve been down here since Monday, doing various things like visiting my grandmother (she did recognize me!!), visited the Kennedy Space Center (the Apollo rockets are just huge) and just enjoying the weather (averaging 80°). My dad and I will be heading home early tommorow and should arrive home around late Saturday night/early Sunday morning. Until then, TTFN.

Florida Or Bust

Friday, April 18th, 2003

My dad and I are driving to Florida tommorow and will be gone for about a week. I may try and blog while I’m down there but no promises ;).

The purpose of this trip is to see my ailing grandmother (dad’s mom). Let’s just say she may not recognise me. We also plan to do some fun things while we are there. Possibly vist Cape Kennedy. Maybe even Disney. I look forward to it.

Take… Luck

Monday, March 31st, 2003

Last Saturday, along with a group of friends, I had the chance to see Brian Regan live at the Comedy Connection in Boston. Talk about a good time. He is the only comedian I know of to become famous (in my area at least) by having his debut set shared on Napster. Had my friends not introduced me to the widely spreading mp3, I would never had heard of this guy. Ever since, many of his phrases have become a part of normal conversation amongst my friends. If you’ve heard him then you know what “Take… luck.” and “You too.” are referering to.

My Neighbors

Tuesday, March 18th, 2003

I recently registered this blog with GeoURL (see little green icon in the navigation bar/section). It allows me to locate myself in the world in relation to others.

Tamara Crowe, author of Through A Glass Darkly is only five miles east of me.

Scott Johnson of The FuzzyBlog! and creator of Feedster is twenty-two miles south of me.

And I thought no one lived near me. The world gets smaller everyday.

I’m Normal After All

Monday, March 17th, 2003

I took this Personality Disorder Test that makes un-official predictions of what, if any, personality disorders you may have. Here are my results:

  • Disorder: Rating
  • Paranoid: Low
  • Schizoid: Low
  • Schizotypal: Low
  • Antisocial: Low
  • Borderline: Low
  • Histrionic: Low
  • Narcissistic: Low
  • Avoidant: High
  • Dependent: Low
  • Obsessive-Compulsive: Low

I was actually a bit suprised by the results because I am aware of some slight brain damage from my youth, but it appears to not be a factor.

Caffeine Overload

Sunday, March 16th, 2003

Yep, I deffinetly had to much caffeine today. I spent the day mixing audio and had to stay rather alert for the whole thing. So I had much Coke and Starbucks. Now my body is dead tired but I still have the buzz. I don’t think I developed the shakes as I have done in the past but nonetheless I still feel very wiped from the day.
