What Kind of Nerd Are You?

Made a few changes to the Muted Gray theme. I’m still torn on what to do with the masthead/header. Maybe I’m trying to hard on it and its fine as is. Let me know.
Got a wireless CompactFlash network card for my Dell PDA today. Now I am no longer bound to my desktop for all my tasks. I am even writing this entry from my PDA (cumbersome as it is). Now I just need to find other locations that offer free wireless internet access in the Lowell/Boston area. Anyone know of any?
Went to the Matrix Reloaded screening last night in Lowell. Let me just say this movie rules on so many levels. The most notable thing is the visual effects. There are some very intense action scenes in here that have never been done before. In an interview, the producer (Joel Silver) said that one fight scene took two years to render! Now that’s a commitment to quality that no movie goer can forget.
The movie also deals with the idea of freedom of choice and what one is willing to do about choices that have already been made. The humans believe there is freedom of choice while the machines believe that choice is only an illusion.
As if that wasn’t enough, Neo, throughout the entire second half of the movie, is slowly discovering the truth about the Matrix. I won’t spoil it for you, but I will tell you that Neo is pitted with an impossible choice.
This movie is so complex that one viewing just won’t do it. I highly recommend seeing it at least a second time. I my self am seeing it again tonight. Hopefully I will see it a few more times before it leaves theaters.
And make sure you wait through to the end of the credits because there is a trailer for The Matrix Revolutions. I am giddy with anticipation for this one as well.
A little in reponse to recent events, I have again redesinged my blog. Done entirely CSS as the last one, I went for a more subtle change and used grays as best I could. Feel free to let me know what you think and of any changes that beckon a change as well as any suggestions.
Via webgraphics, the CSS Zen Garden. This site is absolutely beautiful. Some very clean and inspiring designs. And all done in CSS none the less. Proving once again that CSS can provide form and function.
Asa wrote that he is thinking of redesigning his blog and in the process mentioned that he might use the same mini icon technique that I did. He even called it (the technique or my blog? Unsure.) a “little gem”. Isn’t that nice of him? I sure think so.
However there seems to be a few people commenting on his article that have expressed that my site: hurts their eyes, is not very neat, and is ugly. Well, to all those who spoke up in Asa’s blog, I invite you to criticize me here, not there. That is back stabbing and just plain rude. I don’t mind if you have adverse comments about my site, but say it to me, not on someone else’s site. As you do so try to bear in mind that I am new to web design. I try, I really do and I am willing to make mistakes. But don’t go around in dark corners whispering about my pit falls, make them known to me so that I can learn. A simple courtesy, that’s all I ask.
Ick, just had a look at my site through IE5.2/Mac. The spacing is all wrong in the header area. I’m gonna look into it further, but if you feel you have the answer then feel free to let me know.
Last Monday, I recieved my Dell Axim X5. I ordered it whilest on vacation in Florida so I could get their limited 15% off deal. So far I am very impressed with it’s overall performance. For one, it’s just a good looking PDA with an equally stylish docking cradle. It has at its disposal a 400MHz processor, 64MB of RAM and 48MB of Flash ROM. As I adjust to its behavior, I am taking it easy on what software I load onto it. Just on the outside chance that there is a conflict. My only lament is that it came with more on-board software. No worries, it is for that reason that it was priced at just over US$300. Not a bad buy in my book.
I have returned from Florida, pulled in at 12:30a this morning. Its’ good to be home.
As you can see, I have redesigned my site. It was largely done in CSS with a few minor changes to the markup but they were only so I could select things a little better. For those running Mozilla (and its derivitives), Opera and other browsers with native style sheet selection, the old design is still available (dosen’t stick though). I plan to write some JavaScript to expand this functionality to other browsers, but that will have to wait.
Please let me know what you think and definitely alert me to any bugs in the design.
